Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil

Nanaimo Pride Society invites you to visit this page on November 20th for a live streamed online vigil to remember those we've lost this year, and to honour their memory.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is internationally recognized on November 20th every year. Held the day after the conclusion of Transgender Awareness Week, this day was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hate, violence and prejudice. The event was created to honour Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th,1998 sparked the creation of "Remembering Our Dead," a web project and San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.
